Enso practice
I invite you to become aware of the very act of looking. Where do you place your attention? Is it in the future, the past, or here, in the present moment?
I see abstract art as a portal into the subconscious and a way to practise being present; both for the painter and for the viewer.
Ensō painting is a Zen ink tradition: one breath, one stroke, no correction. It is said to reveal the state of mind of the one who paints it.
Each ensō is painted in a single brushstroke, in a moment of deep presence, with the courage to leave the thinking mind aside and let an inner force take the lead. It draws the eye inward, while raising a question: who, or what, is directing our attention?
As we attend to the shapes that emerge, what do we feel? What comes into our awareness?
Let our attention take us beyond the thinking mind, and enjoy the ride.
